After learning of this great love and spirit, the organ donation and transplantation team of Taipei Medical University Ministerial Shuanghe Hospital urgently started the donation process, coordinated nurses to immediately conduct a nationwide matching and organ availability assessment, and simultaneously convened dozens of medical staff from the Department of Medicine and Surgery, Operating Room, Anesthesiology Department and Intensive Care Unit to successfully complete the kidney donation and kidney transplant surgery.
With the anniversary of organ donation approaching, Shuanghe Hospital recently held a health education activity in the lobby of the hospital to advocate the autonomy of the three laws of good life, such as organ donation, palliative care and advance medical decision-making. Lee Ming-che, President of Shuang Wo Hospital, said that the three methods of good death are the "Human Organ Transplantation Ordinance", the "Hospice and Palliative Care Ordinance" and the "Patient Autonomy Act", and explained that the public often thinks that hospitals are places to "save people", but in fact, the duty of hospitals is to "help people", especially when medical treatment is limited, how to settle the minds of patients at the end of life and help patients to liberate their bodies, minds and spirits is very important. Therefore, the key to promoting the three methods of good death is to encourage people to help themselves make decisions, and only with this concept can we further sublimate to the spirit of love to help others, and let life continue with the help of the medical team.
Since its establishment in 2008, Shuanghe Hospital has been actively promoting transplant medicine and organ donation, upholding the belief of patient-centeredness, integrating multiple medical care teams, and striving to move towards a comprehensive transplant medical center.
